BMTS is seeking urban planning/GIS students to fill one paid planning intern position for summer 2017 (June-August). The internship will focus on making an ADA Transition Plan for the Town of Vestal. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires municipalities’ transportation facilities to be accessible to all people, regardless of physical ability. ADA Transition Plans are documents which detail how a municipality’s transportation infrastructure comply with this requirement, including sidewalks, curb cuts, and bus stops. The plans also describe strategies for improving ADA compliance for these infrastructure in the future. Interns will conduct field work and use GIS to inventory the Town's transportation infrastructure in relation to ADA compliance. They will also have the opportunity to draft text for the document itself. Internship is paid ($10.55 an hour), full-time (40 hours a week), and will run from June to August. Applicants must be at least college Juniors and have GIS experience. An ideal candidate will have taken 2 or more GIS classes.
