The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will hold a public information meeting for a project to make intersection improvements to the intersection of State Route 434, Rano Boulevard and Sycamore Road in the town of Vestal, Broome County. The meeting will be held on October 27, 2009, at 5 p.m. in the new foyer and auditorium at the east end of the building at the African Road Elementary/Vestal Middle School, 600 South Benita Boulevard in Vestal. 

 

The meeting format will consist of both an open house and formal presentation. NYSDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project with interested citizens and public officials in an informal setting from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. People are encouraged to ask questions, give opinions, comments, and project alternative preferences to staff either orally or in writing. A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m. to present the proposed alternatives, with time provided afterward to address specific questions and comments. The meeting will then revert back to an open house format for the remainder of the evening.

 

            This project proposes to address congestion and improve safety. Sidewalk improvements and pedestrian safety and accessibility enhancements will be included. The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, during which feasible alternatives have been developed to address identified deficiencies. These alternatives are based on evaluation of current transportation conditions, environmental and social impacts, engineering considerations and previous public input.
